Contemporary cabinet
A contemporary radiator cabinet with the 7662 grille option (stars).

Matching made to measure bookcases and cupboards

There's no such thing as a standard radiator cabinet - especially when you consider that a radiator can be fitted at any height on the wall, underneath windows, in corners or in alcoves. So a custom made-to-measure cabinet is ideal: you choose the exact size (width, height and depth) and we take care of the rest!

Made-to-Measure questions

Are the  made-to-measure cabinets kits easy to fit?

Yes. When your kit arrives all the difficult carpentry tasks have been completed. It will just need to be assembled using the fixings provided and then fixed in place. The only adjustment you may need to make is to the 'side skirtings' which would need to be cut to fit around your existing skirting board. This is called scribing and it can be done with a jigsaw.

Will I need any special tools to put together the cabinet ?

Nothing that you probably do not have in your tool box already: all you'll need is a large and a small Pozidrive or Phillips screwdriver and a saw to cut the side skirting pieces if required. The only other item required is a little PVA or wood glue.

Do you keep any made-to-measure kits in stock?

No: every single kit that is produce is made specially for each order. This is because every customer's requirement is different (whether it's the size of your radiator or the width of the alcove you're putting a cupboard or bookcase into). Even if all radiators were the same size (which they aren't!), then two plumbers won't necessarily position them at the same height from the floor.

To be able to cope with this, we've developed our manufacturing process specially, and we can deal with most orders as though they were produced on a traditional production line, so costs and delivery times are kept low.

Does a radiator cabinet waste the heat emitted by my radiator?

Diagram showing heat circulation

No. In fact the innovative design means that cold air is drawn in at the gap at the bottom and pushed through the vent in the top. This means that heat comes into the room rather than straight up the wall, collecting at ceiling level.

If your radiator is under a window, this prevents the heat from going up behind the curtains and being wasted.

I have a thermostat on my radiator. Will I still be able to fit a radiator cabinet?

Having thermostatic valves is not a problem; you just need to decide whether you want the valve inside or outside the cabinet, which may depend on the size and position of the valve. Thermostatic valve manufacturers recommend leaving them outside cabinets; however, sometimes this is not wanted or physically impossible in which case you can simply turn the thermostat up to take into account that it is inside a cabinet.

The picture on the left shows how a similar treatment has been used to keep a thermostatic valve outside the cabinet. Alternatively, you could extend the size of the cabinet to enclose a thermostatic valve (and a power socket) as shown on the right.

How do I get to my radiator once the cabinet is fitted?

All made-to-measure radiator cabinets have drop-down fronts for quick access to your radiator and valves. They are secured with magnetic catches and the front panels are easily removed and put back in again.

Can you paint the cabinet for me ?

No, the cabinets need to be painted when assembled and are delivered in flat pack form.

Can you give me an idea of exactly what my made-to-measure kit will look like before I buy it?

Yes. We can Fax you a drawing or send it by post  you can see exactly what it'll look like and also double-check the measurements you've given us.
